Interview Schedule

August, 27 2019

Dear Chair,

The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Lehigh University is pleased to invite you to submit 3 of your best students (undergraduate or graduate) as candidates to interview with ExxonMobil Exploration Company and attend a short course on Reservoir Characterization and Modeling, October 18-20, 2018 at Lehigh University. Only a few select schools are receiving this invitation as enrollment in the course and associated recruiting program is limited. We ask for your help in advertising the opportunity and pre-selecting qualified students from your program. Participants to the course must be U.S. citizens (or have the right to work in the U.S.) who have indicated an interest in a career in the energy field. The program will also include an interview opportunity with ExxonMobil. Select graduates from the course will be considered for ExxonMobil sponsored field courses and possible company internships. Ideal students will be in the early part of their graduate studies or motivated undergraduate seniors with strong backgrounds in geology and/or geophysics and an interest in geoscience internships and positions.

The 3-day event will explore petroleum geology concepts, methods, and tools used to help predict the production of hydrocarbons in the subsurface. Students will be introduced to basin analysis, sequence stratigraphy, and reservoir scale properties. The students will work on applied problems based on real world examples. Throughout the course, emphasis will be on teamwork and collaboration while integrating multiple geoscience disciplines. Students will leave the course with a better understanding of scaling, uncertainty, and prediction in subsurface geologic problems. There is no expectation of familiarity with any of the concepts to be presented.

ExxonMobil will provide the following:

· A 3-day short course

· Two or three night’s hotel lodging in Bethlehem, PA (double occupancy).

· Dinner and mixer on Friday, October 18, 2018 and a class dinner on Saturday, October 19, 2018. Lunch will be provided on Saturday and Sunday. Breakfast will be available at the participant’s hotel.

The short course will begin in the STEPS Building, room 131 at Lehigh University Bethlehem, PA with introductions, an overview of the petroleum asset life cycle and deep water clastic reservoir architecture, and dinner on Friday, October 18, 2018 at 5:30 p.m. A full classroom day from 8:00 a.m.-5:00pm will be held Saturday, October 19th followed by a class dinner. On Sunday, October 20th, the final exercise will begin at 8:00 a.m. and conclude at noon. Interviews will begin on Friday, October 18th for students

who arrive prior to the course kickoff and following the course on Sunday, October 20th from 12:00-5:00 pm.

This ExxonMobil program offers a wonderful opportunity for students to gain valuable experience with interviewing and establishing a relationship with ExxonMobil that could lead to future employment.

The ExxonMobil workshop is early in the school year so that participants can still be competitive for the next round of field school and internship possibilities with the company in 2020. The timing does make it more difficult to identify suitable candidates so I ask you to make your students aware of the opportunity and that you finalize your department’s selections by September 20, 2018. Final acceptances to the course will be made by ExxonMobil and students will be notified by October 4, 2018.

Please direct selected students to:
